The shower shirt is a post-surgical, water-resistant, garment designed to prevent post-surgical mastectomy drain sites, dialysis catheters and medical-ports from coming into contact with water while showering. The fundamental purpose of the product is to reduce the risk of infection while permitting chest surgery patients to bathe with normalcy. The clinical purpose of this product is to reduce post-surgical infections. Many surgical procedures involve the placement of drains, tubes, ports and catheters which penetrate the skin. This medical paraphernalia can act as a portal for bacteria to enter wound sites. Tap water contains bacteria; thus exposure to water while showering, significantly increases the risk of post-surgical infections. Patients are routinely instructed by physicians not to shower until drains, ports and catheters are removed. To facilitate its use, the shower shirt protects the sites from water but also designed with internal 'pockets' and 'straps' to support the weight of mastectomy drain tubes. For kidney/dialysis patients and medical port patients, the neck region is a turtle-neck design lined with micro-fiber, Velcro strap, and drawstring under jaw-line to assure a tight fit across the neck to protect catheters and ports which are normally placed under the collar bone region.
