Find a quiet pace and make your cat feel comfortable. Hold your pat;s paw and use your thumb to gently press the base of the nail to extend it slightly. Trim the nail at a 45-degree angle so it is flush with the floor when your cat walks. Be cautious of the pink-colored blood vessel, or quick, in each nail and trim only the nail tip. The quick may be difficult to see in dark nails. Avoid cutting nails too short as bleeding may occur. If you cut the quick, apply a coagulant (sold separately) to help stop the bleeding.
