Like onitsuka tiger, makumo is inspired by traditional japanese culture and focuses on ensuring quality through craftsmanship. Makumo is owned and mostly operated out of the home of textile designer, miki fukuyama and her husband, chef tomo araki. Fukuyama designs and araki hand prints all of their textiles within their atelier by the sea, implementing her incredibly exclusive prints onto the finest japanese loomed canvas from kurashiki. Given its exclusivity, the partnership between onitsuka tiger and makumo is a first of its kind, as makumos textiles have never been printed on shoes and onitsuka tiger has never adapted home made textiles onto their products. Every makumo textile design has a story.
