The Amprobe DL248D test lead kit contains two silicone-insulated lead wires, two standard probe tips, two alligator clips, two spring-loaded clips, two spade lugs, and one red tip-length extender for connecting a compatible electrical test meter to a device in electrical testing applications. The 48" lead wires have silicone insulation to protect hands from shock and heat. The silicone insulation resists melting in hot environments and becoming brittle in cold ones, and it maintains flexibility better than PVC insulation. The probe tips are held against the conductor during testing. The spring-loaded clips grip the conductor to provide a hands-free connection. The alligator clips have teeth that grip the conductor to provide a more secure, hands-free connection than the probe tips or spring-loaded clamps. The spade lugs clamp to conductors with compression nuts or screws. The red tip-length extender provides additional reach when working with remote conductors. The lead wires can be used with testing devices that have universal 4 mm jacks. The kit meets International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) safety standard 61010. The test leads, probe tips, and spade lugs are certified for category III installations up to 1,000V, which covers items used with enclosed building circuit installations (service panel parts, branch circuits, and fixed installations that are connected directly to a building's AC power supply). The alligator clips are certified for category II installations up to 300V, which covers large household appliances and devices connected to a fixed power supply, such as refrigerators and air conditioners). The kit also conforms to applicable European Conformity (CE) directives. It comes with a soft folding carrying case with a Velcro closure and pockets for organizing probes and wires. Folded, the pouch measures 4.5 x 7.0 x 0.25 inches (H x W x D). Unfolded, it measures 4.5 x 16.0 x 0.25 inches. (H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.)A test probe, test lead, test prod, or scope probe transmits an electrical signal to a testing device for display and analysis. Depending on what is to be tested, the probe might either be passive or have active parts that require external power to operate. Some probes require contact for testing, while some are capable of taking measurements from a distance. Some also have finger barriers, insulation, or other features to help protect the operator's hand from electrical shock and burns. Test probes are rated according to the amount of voltage, current, temperature, or other input they can measure.
