Holbein, the principal supplier to the world's oldest professional watercolor market, offers a classically ground moist transparent watercolor of unsurpassed purity and permanence and unequalled consistency and brilliance. Reproducing the characteristics of handground pigments of the Renaissance, Holbein grinds its pigments as many as 4 times in gum arabic to standards of perfection at each stage of production which far exceed industry standards. Although Holbein Watercolors are manufactured in Japan, they are a European type transparent watercolor. The Japanese are known for producing opaque watercolors which offer exceptional handling qualities. Holbein has used this knowledge to produce a transparent watercolor which exhibit these same qualities. European transparent watercolors generally use ox gall as a wetting agent to increase the flow of color on the paper. Holbein produces their colors without ox gall or any other dispersing agent which allows for less movement of the color on paper. The results are more brush control and greater color density control for the artist. Holbein watercolors have a consistent creamy texture for mixing with a deep, clear, clean color tone which remains brilliant, even when watered down to light hues. Truly, one of the world's finest watercolors. Available in 84 colors in both 5ml and 15ml tubes
