Product Description

Cast members of The Young and the Restless discuss being pressured to "show more skin" and talk about plots that were deemed too controversial.

This Paley Center live event honors the 35th anniversary of The Young and the Restless, the dramatic daytime serial about the socially disparate founding families of Genoa City, Wisconsin. Barbara Dixon (director, The Paley Center for Media, Los Angeles) offers opening remarks and pays tribute to the show's creators, William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell.

Lynette Rice (senior writer, Entertainment Weekly) moderates the following panelists: cast members Christian LeBlanc (Michael Baldwin), Jess Walton (Jill Foster), Joshua Morrow (Nicholas Newman), Michelle Stafford (Phyllis Newman), Kristoff St. John (Neil Winters), Jeanne Cooper (Katherine Chancellor), Doug Davidson (Paul Williams), Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman), and Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott).

Panelists touch on such topics as: the push for soap actors to "show more skin" on camera; how reality shows have diminished the shock factor found in soap operas; and what storylines are too controversial to be covered.

Questions from the audience then lead to a discussion of the following topics: how actors deal with overzealous fans; cast reaction to the loss of a core character on the show; and if actors and writers read fan blogs about storyline suggestions.
