3 new stores: Motorcycle Superstore, Cabela's, and Epson

Posted 04-12-2015 46:45 EDT

We'll be holding off on adding additional stores till end of the month when we get larger hard disks for the database server. I should be able to add a dozen more stores at that time =)

Two new stores, and faster speed

Posted 04-10-2015 37:25 EDT

Two new stores: BackCountry and Kmart. We're still testing the feed, but so far they appear to be functional.

We're also optimizing the server network and added a new CDN to cache content, which hopefully makes PriceZombie faster to load.

Minor enhancements

Posted 04-02-2015 51:45 EDT

Browser extensions can now render used pricing. Previously if an item was used only, you would get a blank chart.

Browser extensions now add items to the correct PriceZombie region. e.g; On amazon.ca if you add an item to your watchlist, it gets added to ca.pricezombie.com instead of the US region.

Upgraded Chart

Posted 03-25-2015 49:32 EDT

I spent quite a bit of time the last few days tweaking the chart used to render the price data in both the browser extensions (all platforms) and the PriceZombie websites.

The end result is that now you can pinpoint an area of the chart to identify the selling price and date ranges by simply hovering your mouse over the area you're interested in. No more SVG oddness.

New PriceZombie regions online: United Kingdom and India

Posted 03-24-2015 30:41 EDT

We're happy to announce that we've got .uk and .in up and running. The first store for each is Amazon. These are early releases, so keep in mind it will take a while to auto discover products on the new Amazon stores. I estimate that they will contain useful data in a month or two.

We're still adding stores to Canada, so Amazon is all that is likely to exist on these new regions for a few weeks.

The browser extensions are fully functional for the new regions.

Good news for our Canadian users

Posted 03-23-2015 45:29 EDT

Earlier this month we setup Amazon.ca for the Canadian instance of PriceZombie. It typically takes several months of collecting prices to get useful price history for a product.

Today we added Newegg.ca, but there won't be months of waiting for useful price history to appear. We are importing the last year of price history from Newegg.ca, and so we'll have 12 months of price history available soon. At the current rate, the import will be done in about a week.

We plan to add a bunch more stores to the Canadian region.

Also the UK region is going to be online soon.. stay tuned!

Site speedup and Newegg

Posted 03-22-2015 03:00 EDT

Just fixed an issue with the CDN not caching our dynamically generated images. They are now properly cached and you should see a significant improvement in image load times as a result.

We've also had issues with the Newegg feed for the last month. A change on Newegg's side that we weren't aware of, caused us to only get partial product updates. A patch was made yesterday to account for the change. Over the next few days everything should go back to normal (Please contact me if you see anything abnormal or there are still products missing). A side effect of Newegg's change will be that we get more frequent product updates; so this will actually become a nice upgrade for everyone.

Version 2 of the browser extensions released!

Posted 03-21-2015 16:09 EDT

At long last, we've finally pushed out the new version 2 of the PriceZombie browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox (Safari will be updated shortly). The functionality hasn't changed much, but its scope has expanded:

1. The browser extensions can now work with multiple PriceZombie regions. We're working hard to expand beyond stores in the United States, and a major part of that effort requires the extension to function with the international PZ servers. We're setting up Canada and UK regions first. Once you're on v2, you can test it out on Amazon.ca.

2. Browser extensions now use SSL.

3. Chrome browser extension has had the "background" permission removed. We weren't using it, and it had an annoying Chrome warning when closing the browser.

4. The PriceZombie charts have been upgraded. The price point info (on hover) now has a larger font and activates anywhere on a horizontal line (instead of only on the price point). It now also draws out where Jan 1st is of each year shown, so its easier to judge time frame at a glance.
