Watchlist update

Posted 12-06-2014 46:29 EST

Watchlists were always intended to continue to notify you when the price dropped (till you unsubscribe). That logic was never activated till now.

There is a rearm timer (defaults to 2 days) which you can modify in your control panel. Once a watched item triggers, you will get an email notification. Once the rearm time has passed, the watchlist for that item is rearmed, and you will be notified again if the price changes (and is still below your target price).

What this means is, if you'd like to be notified more frequently, you reduce the rearm time. If you don't want to be notified too often, you can raise it.

You can also set the rearm time to Never, in which case, you get one notification and then that product won't trigger again.

Unregistered users get the rearm time of Never by default.

Two really nice reviews of PriceZombie

Posted 11-19-2014 11:35 EST

PriceZombie had two really nice reviews posted recently. Due to the increased traffic, I've been working to optimize the site speed. Hopefully it feels snappier now.

First off, Extension.Zone did a really nice review of PZ. You can read their review, or watch their youtube review.

redbaronpizza on imgur.com also included PZ in a 4 helpful website lineup.

Fry's Electronics added to Pricezombie

Posted 10-15-2014 25:34 EDT

We now have price history for Fry's available. It will be a few weeks before the data becomes useful, but we're happy to have it included, and data is available on browser extensions immediately.

Amazon best sellers rank (sales rank) now available on the website and browser extensions

Posted 08-24-2014 13:03 EDT

We've been getting a lot of requests for Amazon's sales rank to be included in PriceZombie. This weekend we've added it. The system is still collecting data, so the charts will have few details until it has had some time to get more results. Currently we have recorded 3,762,638 sales ranks for 2,894,828 products.

The sales rank will display on the product view pages as well as in the browser extension (Under the heading SalesRank).

Extension upgrade - "Good buy" icon

Posted 08-10-2014 34:10 EDT

The PriceZombie extension icon will now change colors depending if the current item is cheaper at another store (red), or if the price is considered a good buy (green) or not. The trigger price for a "good deal" is user configurable in your preferences page . The default setting will turn the icon green if the price is within the lowest 3% ever seen for the product.

This feature is immediately available in the chrome version 1.1 extension.
It will be available shortly for firefox (need to go through their review process) and safari (I'm still working on the icons before we can publish).

Minor update

Posted 08-07-2014 42:00 EDT

We've been tweaking the display code, shaved off another second of time on the lowest ever and price drop pages.

The watchlist page now allows you to retain or remove synced items after disabling the amazon wish list sync.

We're also happy to see the PriceZombie Safari extension approved on the official safari extension site!

Automatic Price Localization

Posted 07-26-2014 20:09 EDT

Today we released our automatic price localization. This enhancement allows you to select your local currency. PriceZombie will then automatically convert all values you see and interact with to that currency. Now you can shop US stores without having to do the price conversion in your head.

Everything from product searches, price drops, watch lists, and the browser extensions have been updated to support price localization.

To make use of this, simply login and visit your control panel > Preferences, and set the desired currency. New users can also set their currency during the registration process.

This is the first out of three steps to move PriceZombie into foreign (Non-US) markets. The second step is language localization, then expanding to list non-US stores.

Unexpected downtime

Posted 07-22-2014 12:58 EDT

We had a SAS controller failure at 9:30pm (Monday) that resulted in a database crash. It goes to show you can only plan for so much - the database runs on raid 10 with SSDs.

It took us till 6:30am (Tuesday) to go through the hardware and verify functionality. The resulting filesystem and database checks ate up the majority of the time. Site is back up and running at 100%.
