Derwent Inktense Pencils, 24-Ct. Metal Tin Vibrant Color with the Performance of Traditional Pen and Ink Derwent Inktense Pencils are as versatile as watercolor pencils, with a firmer texture that allows them to perform with the brilliant intensity of traditional pen and ink. Use them individually or mix colors together to create rich, subtle tones for bold, expressive drawings. The soft leads allow for quick lay down of vibrant color, and they can be used dry or washed out with a little water to create a vivid yet translucent effect. Lift color off of the end of the pencil to strengthen the tonality of your work. And, if you need to soften it, apply dry color over drawn areas. Create texture by flicking color off the end of the pencil using a wet brush. Once dry the color is permanent and can be worked over with other media. Inktense pencils are perfect for a diverse range of art, from Japanese Manga to vibrant silk painting, traditional watercolors to stunning botanical illustrations. A color tab at the top of the pencil matches the core color for easy identification. And, theyre presharpened, so you can get to work right away! I received this 24 pack of pencils for my birthday. At first I thought that they were really crumby because their colors were not nearly as vibrant as they appeared on the tin. I went online and learned that one is supposed to add water after laying down the pencil on a medium to medium thick multimedia paper. I took out a watercolor brush, laid some water over the flower I'd drawn and low-and-behold, their colors jumped!

I would highly recommend these pencils to anyone who is interested in art / drawing and especially if you want to take it to the next level. I especially think these are great for people who like to draw flowers, like me!

The one thing that I would change about these pencils is the price. I don't know what the process is to create the pencil and considering that they do come from the UK, I suppose the regular price of over $30.00 isn't too bad, but I would love to get a deal at about a buck a pencil--thus the Watch I created on PZ!

deloppoled, can I recommend adding a set of Derwent Studio pencils? They are beautifully pigmented and currently much less than $1 per pencil (a set of 12 is $6.80 including shipping through an Amazon third party seller, link below). The Studio Pencils are a harder pencil that will complement your watercolor washes. For example, if you want to add detail in your flowers - the stamen, pistle, veining, hard edges, shadows and highlights the Studio Pencils will do the job for you.
