Product Description
1/72 scale model kit of the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II, a two-seat, twin-engine, all-weather land & carrier based supersonic fighter-bomber. Introduced to squadron service in the 1960's, the F-4 was used extensively by the United States NAVY, Air Force, and Marine Corps until the type was replaced by the more advanced fighter aircraft like the F-15 Eagle (U.S.A.F.), F-16 Fighting Falcon (U.S.A.F.), F-14 Tomcat (U.S. NAVY), and F/A-18 Hornet (U.S. NAVY & Marine Corps). Although originally developed as a supersonic interceptor, the F-4 nevertheless performed very well as a dogfighter, and several fighter aces including the legendary Randy "Duke" Cunningham and triple ace Robin Olds all logged multiple MiG kills flying the F-4. This model kit features detailed cockpit, landing gear and under-wing weapons. Kit Includes decals for U.S. NAVYVF-33 "TARSIERS" CAG 1978, VF-213 "BLACKLIONS" CAG (Bu.No.155882) October 1974, and VF-213 "BLACKLIONS" CAG (Bu.No.157272) December 1972. The F-4 Phantom was designed as a fleet defense fighter for the U.S. Navy, and first entered service in 1960. By 1963, it had been adopted by the U.S. Air Force for the fighter-bomber role. When production ended in 1981, 5,195 Phantom IIs had been built, making it the most numerous American supersonic military aircraft. Until the advent of the F-15 Eagle, the F-4 also held a record for the longest continuous production with a run of 24 years.
