Product Description

The American Silver Eagle is the official Silver coin of the United States. The obverse design of the coin is similar to that of the Walking Liberty Half Dollar series produced from 1916 to 1946, and is considered by most coin collectors to be one of the most popular U.S. coin designs. They were authorized by the United States Congress and its weight and content is certified by the United States Mint. They were first issued on November 24, 1986. The coin has a face value of $1.00 and is guaranteed to contain one troy ounce of .999 pure silver. The American Silver Eagle bullion coin may be used to fund Individual Retirement Account investments. Over the years, the Silver Eagle Dollar has been produced at three different U.S. Mints: From 1986 to 1995, they were produced at the San Francisco Mint and the coin bears an "S" Mintmark. From 1996 to 2000, they were minted at the Philadelphia Mint and will have a "P" Mintmark. From 2001 through 2012, they are being minted at the West Point, New York Mint with a "W".
