Storied Places is Kenneth Pattengale s first release for LA based indie label Milan Records. A native of Los Angeles, and a truly independently minded singer/songwriter, Kenneth Pattengale has released several albums fully independent at his shows and his website. This is his first release with formal label support.
Storied Places is a collection of new songs by Kenneth Pattengale that exhibits traces of Henry and Costello, along with Tom Waits, Gilian Welch, early Bob Dylan, Chris Smither and Loudon Wainwright. Like Waits , classifying the music by genre proves to be rather difficult. It runs the gamut from swamp music to rhythm and blues, lullaby to country and western, folk song to piano ballad all with seamless transitions and creative combinations. Pattengale s songs take direction from the stories they tell. They are not necessarily held together by a clear singular musical style but by the authenticity with which the stories are told. Storied Places also includes a cover of Desert by critically acclaimed electro-pop artist, Emilie Simon.
A regular performer at the legendary Los Angeles venue, Hotel Caf, Kenneth performs both solo and with his full band which lends its creative percussion, upright bass and clarinet, sax and more to his touching and eclectic songs.
Kenneth recently received worldwide notoriety with his original score to the feature length anime film, The Three Robbers and has also produced records for artists including Interscope s From First To Last, indie artist Matt Taylor and his Laurels and others.
