Albert Finney and Tom Courtenay star with Joanna Lumley in this poignant adaptation of the novel by Angela Lambert, . When their wives die on the same day in the same hospital, ex-RAF fighter pilot Reggie Conyhgham-Jervis (Finney) and former milkman Roy Southgate (Courtenay) suddenly become two lonely widowers who are left struggling to rebuild their lives. After moving in together, the trials and tribulations commence. Reggie attempts to build a romantic relationship with a local woman and Roy seeks to make amends with his estranged son.
