SubstrateSource Red Cherry Shrimp (Neocaridina heteropoda) are freshwater shrimp and peaceful additions to the freshwater aquarium. They are scavengers, feeding on pretty much anything they can get ahold of including the algae film that naturally grows inside of an aquarium, or fish food pellets, wafers, or flakes. As with all aquatic pets, do not over-feed as this may create an unhealthy aquarium environment for your shrimp. SubstrateSource Red Cherry Shrimp can display more or less vibrant coloration depending on their age, sex, and environment.

Keep in mind that shrimp in nature are generally the target of predators, so if you have aggressive fish (e.g. Cichlids, Barbs, Angelfish, etc.), you should not buy these shrimp. Although fish with small mouths may not be able to eat the shrimp, constant pecking by fish can stress and kill cherry shrimp. With this in mind, make sure there are plenty of places for shrimp to hide if you do have fish. These shrimp love live aquarium plants and use them for both shelter and a feeding site.

Note: The shrimp are selected at random (size and sex). Most are juvenile size, roughly 1/4 inch in length, but may be as long as 1 inch. As depicted in the sample photo, the color markings vary by individual.
