Griottines belong to that short list of special European products that have been enjoyed and appreciated for years, but whose formula remains a mystery of secrecy and speculation. Griottines are very simply Morello cherries, with their stone removed and prepared in liqueur. We know that one ingredient used is the cherry based Kirsch. They may be used straight from the jar as is, or chilled to appreciate their flavor even more. They may be added to cocktails, desserts, or canaps. They pair well with cheese and fruit platters, smoked fish, or ham. And they make quite an elegant statement in Champagne. They are even enjoyable in an after dinner coffee. Each bottle of Morello Cherries (Griottines) in Kirsch contains approximately 2 ounces or 57g. and arrives in its own little cherry red box.
