Born 1944 in western Kentucky, Charles Frizzell has been creating artwork all his life. After graduating from Murray State University in 1967 with a B.S. in Fine Arts, Frizzell headed west, settling in Colorado in 1969. He now lives and works in a small central Colorado town noted for its artistic atmosphere, the Royal Gorge, and the Arkansas River. Charles has out-the-door access to some of the most beautiful scenery in Colorado, as well as the Arkansas River and the Bighorn Sheep canyon

A member of the International Guild of Realism, Frizzell's art is collected internationally, and the list of honors and awards he has received in regional and national exhibitions is extensive. He has been honored with many solo exhibitions in galleries throughout the southwest, as well as participating in numerous group exhibitions. His work is in the permanent collection of the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, and in the Francis S. King Collection of Western Art at the Pueblo Fine Arts Center in Pueblo, Colorado, where he was also invited to hang a solo exhibition. His landscape paintings have been included three times in the prestigious Arts for the Parks exhibitions, winning a bronze medal once, and being selected for an Arts for the Parks poster once. The inclusion of his fantasy art into "Spectrum 7; The Best of Contemporary Fantastic Art" in 2000 marked his first acceptance into an international juried exhibition. His painting, "Wizard's Vale" accepted into "Spectrum 11" in 2004 was among the 330 accepted pieces out of over 3,000 submitted entries. In 2007, his award winning works from past Phippen Memorial exhibitions were included in the "Winners' Round Up" exhibition at the Phippen Museum in Prescott, AZ. He was juried into the top 100 in the new Paint the Parks exhibition for 2008, with a painting of the Great Sand Dunes.

From the national park website "OF SPECIAL interest to students of American social history is the Wick House in Jockey Hollow. It was built about 1750 by Henry Wick, a New England emigrant, and served as headquarters for Maj. Gen. Arthur St. Clair during the Continental Army encampment of 1779-80. The building has been restored and furnished in period by the National Park Service as part of its plan to recreate the Colonial atmosphere of the old Wick Farm, with its garden, barnyard, orchard, and cultivated fields. It was in a bedroom of the house, according to legend, that young Tempe Wick concealed her white riding horse after dramatically escaping from soldiers who had tried to seize the animal, presumably for army use."

From the park's web site - Perched on a scenic bluff above the Pacific Ocean, Shore Acres began as a private estate with luxurious gardens featuring trees, shrubs, and flowering plants brought from around the world aboard the sailing ships of pioneer lumberman and shipbuilder Louis J. Simpson.

Simpson developed the summer home into a showplace three-story mansion complete with a heated, indoor swimming pool and a large ballroom. The grounds contained five acres of formal gardens, including a Japanese-style garden built around a 100-foot lily pond.

When fire destroyed the mansion in 1921, Simpson began to build an even larger replacement - two stories high and 224 feet long. However, financial losses in the 1930s caused both house and grounds to fall into disrepair. In 1942, Simpson's beloved Shore Acres was purchased by the state of Oregon for use as a public park.

From the company web site - It was the late 1960's and Joyce Byers, an amateur artist with a degree in fashion design, was disappointed in what she was seeing in the stores: aluminum tinsel trees with garish blue lights. She was looking for holiday decorations with warmth that showed respect for timeless traditions and her own memories of Christmas. The first Carolers graced the Byers' dining room table that Christmas, and they received compliments from all of the relatives. On a tight budget, Joyce knew what to make for presents the following year. A neighbor suggested taking some to a local store, where they sold quickly. The store was part of a federation of Woman's Exchanges and introduced the Carolers to other exchanges around the country. Soon a couple of dozen stores around the country were asking Joyce to supply them with Carolers. Joyce pressed her husband, Bob, and their two sons into service to help produce the figures each autumn. It wasn't long before the Carolers overwhelmed the dining room table, where the family gathered to work together. "Every year the house would be a total wreck, and I'd say that we're never doing this again!" remembers Joyce.

But when a downturn in the economy hurt his construction business, Bob looked around and saw some potential in the Carolers. He decided to devote more of his energies to the fledgling business, and in 1978, the couple hired their first employee, and turned the garage into a workshop.

The unique appearance and handcrafted quality of the Carolers quickly gained a following. Each year, Bob & Joyce would work with their crew of trained artisans up until Christmas Eve putting the finishing touches on Carolers. And although the Carolers are sold in thousands of fine gift stores around the world, the company still holds to its starting roots: producing a quality product, at an affordable price, and dedicated to serving its customers and the community in the spirit of Christmas.
